Follow the Blood Trail

Hey Tommy, we’re bleeding money in marketing every month.

This is what a potential client said to me a few days ago; my response, “GOOD, all we have to do is follow the blood trail that leads to the womb.”

What did I mean by that?

I’m glad you asked, because this philosophy is something that is lost on 95% of marketing companies across the United States right now. Marketing companies are spending so much time trying to implement new, exciting, one size fits all marketing solutions that they have lost the skill to diagnose a marketing issue and resolve it.

We, marketing companies, have been our own worst enemies for over a decade and the chickens have come home to roost. How many times has a home service contractor heard, “oh, that company doesn’t know what they’re doing. Just come on over to us and we’ll get you more leads.”

Notice the marketing company didn’t diagnose the contractor’s problem, instead, they said what would close the deal, which is, “I can get you more leads.”

This leads to the fundamental issue we are seeing today when talking with home service contractors about marketing. It is impossible to just “fix” a marketing problem in the age of marketing we are in; instead, we have to follow the blood trail.

This analogy comes from hunting. When I was living on my family farm, we would deer hunt often, and more importantly we would bow hunt. When you shoot a deer with an arrow, they don’t drop to the ground, they run away and hide. As the hunter, you have to pay attention to where they run, and once in the woods look for blood drops to find the deer.

This same philosophy applies to marketing issues.

As the contractor, you’re bleeding cash because you have been shot and you’re running away from the problem that is causing you to bleed which is most likely your old marketing company.

To survive, you call Lion + Panda…hopefully.

So, what do we do?

Once you have explained to us what is happening, we start following the blood trail to the womb. The trail that leads us to the womb can be a few different things.

  • Lack of leads
  • Low click through ratio
  • Lack of engagement
  • High spend, low results
  • Bad leads coming through via bots
  • And a few other things

We follow the blood trail! For instance, lack of leads would cause us to start at the Google Ad, which would then go to the type of ad, then do you have a client list uploaded, and then so on and so forth.

We eventually get to the womb, mend it, and then clean up all the blood trail. Why do we clean up the blood trail? Great question. So that way when we inevitably have another shot womb, because it is going to happen, it’s easier to find the womb because all the blood is cleaned up from the previous wombs – this is a whole other problem marketing companies have horribly failed to do! Just clean up your mess…my four year old has figured this out.

To wrap this thing up, following the blood trail and mending the womb can be a very fast resolution or could take weeks to resolve; it really depends on the problem. If your google tag isn’t installed properly that could take 45 minutes; whereas, if you have malware on your website, this is a LOOOONNNNNG fix that could take up to 30 days or even need a complete website rebuild.

When you’re following the blood trail, you have to move slowly , be patient and not get distracted. You have to trust the process.

When you’re bleeding cash….FOLLOW…THE…BLOOD…TRAIL!
